Miss you Like Crazy 2010

Miss You Like Crazy is a 2010 romantic drama, Filipino film starring the box-office tandem of John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo. It is Star Cinema's post-valentine presentation for 2010.

The film also had United States theatrical premieres in Los Angeles, CA and in Honolulu, HI.

Plot
The story is a flashback of the five years (2005 to 2010) of love affair involving the characters of Allan Alvarez (John Lloyd Cruz) and Mia Samonte (Bea Alonzo). The opening scene was in a Pasig River ferry boat. One of the passenger, Allan, was sad and confused if he really loved his then live-in partner, Daphne Recto (Maricar Reyes). While another passenger, Mia, was downtrodden by family problems. To express her heartaches, Bea would write messages on stones and would leave them anywhere, Allan picked up one of those, they got acquainted and their romantic story began.

Later, in one of their trysts they met an old man (Noel Trinidad) in Paco Park who predicted that they were meant for each other and would end up together although it would take a difficult five-year ride.

Allan was torn between two loves. Although he knew that he loved Mia more, he procrastinated in his choice. Mia left for Malaysia. Two years after, when John Lloyd finally broke free from his indecision, he went to Malaysia to look for Mia only to find out that she was already engaged to another guy. It was now Mia's turn to make a choice. She chose the new guy who loved her so much even though she honestly knew in her heart that she still loved Allan.

Allan did not lose hope. He patiently waited for Mia for another three years. He firmly believed that she would come back to him as predicted by the old man earlier in the story. True enough, the Malaysian guy let Mia go as he was aware of who Mia truly wanted. On the very same date foreseen by the old man, Mia returned to the Philippines, saw Allan waiting for her, and embraced each other.

The Red Shoes 2010

The Red Shoes is a 2010 Filipino film produced by Unitel, known for the box-office and critical hits Crying Ladies and Santa Santita. The movie is unusual in Philippine cinema because of its non-linear narrative style and use of history to frame a tale of lost love and redemption spanning close to three decades, starting in 1981 with the tragic accident in the construction of the Manila Film Center, through to the 1986 People Power Revolution, which ended the 21-year Presidency of Ferdinand Marcos, and finally concluding in 2009, which finds the major characters of the film facing the consequences of the theft of one of 3,000 pairs of shoes of the First Lady Imelda Marcos.

The film is rated "A" by the Cinema Evaluation Board of the Philippines.

Plot

On the last day of the People Power Revolution in the Philippines in February 1986, 10-year-old Lucas Munozca (Marvin Agustin) finds himself swept up with a euphoric crowd that has entered the grounds of the Malacañang Presidential Palace. Lost in the tumult, Lucas stumbles into a room where the president's wife, Imelda Marcos, kept her infamous shoe collection. He plans to filch two pairs but only manages to steal one pair--for poetic justice and for love.

Lucas gives the pair of red shoes from the country's First Lady to the first ladies of his life. The right shoe he gives to his mother, Chat (Liza Lorena), who ekes out a living giving manicures and pedicures while seemingly unable to recover from the loss of her husband, Domingo (Tirso Cruz III), the father of her only son, who was among the 169 workers said to have been buried alive when the upper levels of the Manila Film Center collapsed under construction in 1981 for the Manila International Film Festival project of the First Lady. The left shoe Lucas gifts to the love of his life, Bettina (Nikki Gil), the daughter of one of her mother's wealthy manicure home service customers.

Lucas and Bettina eventually become a couple years later and go steady for 13 years until a betrayal ends the relationship. At this point, the red shoes again become crucial for both mother and son in their attempt to overcome their respective loneliness: Chat, in trying to contact her husband from beyond the grave through Madame Vange (Tessie Tomas), a spiritist whose main job is being an Imelda impersonator; and Lucas, in trying to redeem himself for having lost his true love in a moment of weakness.

Cast

Production

In the third edition of Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival in 2007, a screenplay entitled 2,999, which told the story of a missing pair of shoes from Imelda Marcos's collection of 3,000 pairs of shoes, was one of the finalists that year. Unfortunately, the filmmakers were unable to finish the entry on time so they decided to pull out.[1]

Marvin Agustin liked the story so much that he called writer James Ladioray to present to Unitel President and CEO Tony Gloria, who was instantly drawn to the story and wasted no time in greenlighting the project.[2]

"The story unfolds through three decades as we tell Lucas’ story," Jorolan lets on. "Young, resolute and in love, there is nothing that will stop him from pursuing his goals – not even committing an act amidst the chaos and confusion of the 1986 People Power revolution – all in the name of love."[2]

Jorolan, a TV commercial director, faced other challenges. Lead stars Agustin and Gil, contract actors from rival TV stations GMA Network and ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation, had to squeeze in shooting in their competing work schedules, stretching principal photography, which took only 20 days, over 10 months. Jorolan and Ladioray, an advertising creative director, had to shuttle in between their regular work and the movie set to complete the shoot.[3]

Ladioray adds, "I didn't want to make an outrightly political movie. That part in our history was very decisive, I wanted to make a story that can use that turning point as a point of redemption for everyone. The shoes are a metaphor — I wanted to ask the question, would you steal for love?"[4]

Jorolan speaks of another metaphor that was crucial to the story, the bridge. "A bridge connotes relationship, whether it's been cut short, it still holds its purpose, similar to a relationship that's been broken off. (It still holds significance)."[4]

One night, Ina saw President Hillary in the kitchen looking for food. She made her a sandwich and a cup of coffee. After a long conversation, Ina asked the President to take a picture with her. But, the camera was with Rowena. The president asked for a cellphone, but the cellphone has no camera.

While cleaning the president's room, Rowena saw a purple dress. She asked Ina to try it, but she refuses. But, she went out wearing that dress that belongs to the President. When the president is approaching her room, she tries to hide. On the study room, Ina saw Vice President Bill Bilyones (DJ Durano) talking about their plot to assassinate the president. Ina and Rowena tried to tell the President but failed because of the absent-mindedness of the crowd.

Being the President, she faces difficulties with her family until Sweet and Connie were kidnapped by terrorists because they thought that going out of their family will reduce the burdens of their mother. In the end, she decides to resign and gives her presidency to the Vice President, Ren Constatino as their new Preisident.

During the Closing Credits, Ren Constantino roams around her office looking at the portraits of the previous president. The last to show was Ina's Family on the picture.

She also is famous for quotes, like: "Tell me who your friends are,and i'll tell you who my friends are, para barkada." "Practice makes perfect. But then again, nobody's perfect. So why practice?" "Kung kaya ng iba, ipagawa mo sa kanila(If others can,let them do it).

Criticism

Philippine Senator Aquilino Pimentel, Jr. criticized the film, particularly the scene which smacks of an ethnic slur to non-Tagalog speaking Filipinos when the character of portrayed by Gloria Diaz exclaimed to her grandchild's nannies: "Bakit pinapalaki ninyong Bisaya ang apo ko?" (Why are you rearing my grandchild as a Visaya?) The senator, who hailed from Mindanao, demanded an apology from producer Star Cinema, claiming that it makes non-Tagalog speaking Filipinos "as if they are less Filipino than the Tagalog people".[5] Iligan City-based Call for Justice, Inc., referred to this dialog as "a typical Imperial Manila mentality".[6]
